VBS 2011 Night 3

Night 3 of VBS was an extremely important one as we discussed salvation through Jesus Christ.  We began the night with some recreation time playing a game where everyone joined hands and there was a chair in the middle.  The object of the game was to get everyone to touch the chair without you touching the chair yourself.  Once someone touched it they left the circle making it smaller.  After a couple rounds of that we changed the chair to a hula-hoop on the ground which made it a greater challenge.  After that and an acoustic worship set, we dove into the story of Nicodemus coming to Jesus to find out about salvation and defined the following steps.

1)  Recognize Your Need- John 3:1-3
-We began this part by defining some needs and wants in our lives and the difference.  Many times we confuse the two.
-Nicodemus comes to Jesus because he recognizes that there is a need in His life.  He understands that living a life of religion is not what it is about.  We all have a need in our life because of the sin we have.  We have the need for a savior.
2)  Discover the Role of Jesus in Giving New Birth- John 3:4-14
-Nicodemus has a hard time understanding what Jesus says about being born again.  Jesus is not talking about a second physical birth, but instead about how when we make a life change in following Him, it is a new birth where the old person is no longer and we have a new life that follows Jesus with our whole being.  It takes placing our faith in Jesus for this new birth to occur.
3)  Trust Jesus for This New Birth- John 3:15-18
-Jesus tells Nicodemus that He has come to earth to die for the sins of all humankind.  In order for the new birth to occur, we must place our trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.

So as we closed the night I wrapped it up by reiterating the plan of salvation.  We must first recognize our need in a Savior because our sin has separated us from God and destined us for hell.  We must believe that Jesus died on the cross in the place of our sins and rose from death three days later.  We must ask Jesus to forgive our sins, and ask Him to come live within us and commit our lives to following Him the rest of our lives.  It does not mean that we will be perfect because we all fail, but we make a commitment to strive to live for Him by giving Him our best.  If you have never made a decision to follow Jesus then I encourage you to do that today, because it is the most important decision you will ever make in life.

Here are a few pictures from Day 3.
